My niece is 13 and the past week she had some serious panic attacks, and I’m trying to help her. Until she can get professional help (her psychologist is out of town), could you link me some trustworthy sources on panic attacks in general, or anything that I could translate to her (she doesn’t speak english) that has helped you with your panic attacks?

My mom recently started a baking business called Roxie’s Baked Goods (black owned businesses, hollaaa)! As the name suggests, she bakes pastries, cookies, and breads that are like honestly phenomenal (I’m biased as her daughter, but man I’ve eaten her cooking my whole life and can say it’s never once disappointed me). Last week she did a round of meetings and interviews with a company that’s willing to back her financially, but she needs to show them that this can/will be successful. So she’s made a facebook page – her goal is to get to 1,000 likes in two weeks.
My mom doesn’t know I’m sharing this on here but y’all…I want this for her. I really want this to be something she can do. She’s 47 years old and is JUST now being able to follow her dreams and it kills me that life and circumstances have kept her from doing so for so long.

SEWSA is the Southeastern Women’s Studies Association Conference. I will be presenting a paper on FAT POLITICS! Basically, I’m going to talk about how fat people deserve to live our lives to the fuckin’ FULLEST but people try to stop us from being our best selves by always telling us that we’re going to die sooner because we’re fat (which just isn’t true.)
This paper (and trip, if I can go) are a way of me honoring my dad after his death. He would be so proud of me for getting into this conference, and the whole reason I’m writing this paper is because of him. Together we faced incredible amounts of fatphobia from his doctors, nurses, and loved ones, and this paper is a way for me to honor his memory, his passing, and his life.
He deserved better. All fat people deserve better. This paper is a tiny way for me to give better back to us.
My dad may not be able to see me graduate from grad school, but he will be with me as I take on these final projects. I just need your help to get me where I need to go so I can share my ideas.

Due to stress-related nighttime tooth grinding, I have a broken tooth with an exposed nerve and several cavities that are all in danger of becoming infected. I do have insurance, but I will still be $1200 short. I work in the human services field so I just make enough to survive and cannot afford this at all. Any help at all is greatly appreciated.
A single mom from Detroit says Bank of America is holding literally “every single dime” she has to her name hostage. After receiving $50,000 in settlement money from a lawsuit regarding her younger brother’s death a teller at one of the bank’s branches took one look at her and decided it was suspicious that someone like her would have this kind of money. Assuming something fishy had to be going on, he flagged her account for fraud, which resulted in her account being frozen.
The $50,000 was wired directly into her account with Bank of America on May 20. There was an initial two-hour hold placed on the funds until everything could be verified, but then she was told she would have full access to her money. Over the next several days she was able to make substantial withdrawals from her account with no problems.
Then on May 24, Anderson totaled her car. She went to a different branch of Bank of America to withdraw $5,000 from her account so that she could purchase a new vehicle. But the teller that waited on her decided there was no way someone like her should have money like that.
The guy behind the counter started asking me where did I get the money from, and a bunch of questions” she recalled. “And I told him, I feel that’s none of his business, so I’m going to go to another branch where I feel more comfortable.”
When Anderson got to a different branch she found out that her account had been frozen, meaning all the money she has is now off-limits. When she accused the bank of discrimination she was told to leave.
I feel like you guys are discriminating against me; is it because I’m black?’ And then … she told me to leave out the back because I was upset,” Anderson said she asked the staff at the bank. “Yes, I was [upset]. I was mad because these are my funds. Why can’t I receive my funds?”
Anderson says she has not been able to access any of her funds since that day. Her rent is due and without a car, she can’t even get to work. The bank has told her nothing about the status of her account..
We’ve frozen the customer’s account under the terms of our Deposit Agreement and Disclosures,” the bank statement explained. “In the agreement, if at any time we believe a customers’ account may be subject to irregular, unauthorized, fraudulent or illegal activity, we may, in our discretion, freeze the funds in the account and in other accounts they maintain with us, without any liability to the customer, until we are able to complete our investigation of the account and transactions.”
The Patriot Act of 2001 gives bank employees the leeway to use their discretion to freeze any accounts that they suspect of suspicious activity. For example, a single black mother who isn’t poverty-stricken. Clearly suspicious.
I feel like my money is being held hostage. Every single dime is tied up in that bank,”Anderson said. “I thought I was being safe putting money in the bank, but it seems I’m safer putting it under my mattress.”
Anderson said she was told by the bank that it could take up to a year for the investigation to be completed and for access to her funds to be restored.

so now my dad is probably going to be staying in the hospital for awhile again and responsibilities are going to default to me (which is FINE. i love my dad, i want to help.) but i’m super fucking broke and stretched fucking thin as it is, so having to pay for gas to drive 3 hours home and spend money while i’m there is making me fucking panic
this is what i mean when i say it’s impossible to save money when you’re poor. every day brings with it an increased potential for having your life turn upside down because you have no money.

Just got off the phone with my papa. He had a stroke and he’s in the ICU again.
I really can’t afford to go home right now. I was planning on going in a few weeks when my mom gives me money she owes me so that I could afford the gas, and two trips in such a short amount of time is impossible with the amount of money I (don’t) have.
It costs me about $50 to drive home and back, and I usually spend about $50 when I’m there because I’m responsible for buying my own groceries when I’m home, and I’m expected to help out my family with other things when I’m there like gas money, toiletries, etc.A free stay at home doesn’t exist in my family. Plus you just need to have money when you’re at a hospital because leaving to go home and cook and then come back is SO inconvenient. All of this is a mess.
