I had a random thought today that I want to throw out into the void. I feel like one of the many reasons ‘girl’ is used a lot is because ‘woman’ is such a heavy word. Like, phonetically. It’s a mouthful and seems so formal, so why say that when you can say the shorter version? (in this case ‘girl’)
Men get the nice short version, and it’s part of women that get’s tacked onto the end. So why not Wom (wahm to avoid it sounding like ‘womb’ which has certain implications) and Wem for singular and plural. Just a shortcut for saying woman/women that’s easier and more casual but not demeaning like girl.
I know it’s not actually something that would catch on, and I know it sounds a little silly, but don’t most things before they become common? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Whatevs. Just wanted to throw it into the void that is Tumblr.
