for years i have lived this lie telling everyone i am allergic to peanuts because i hate the smell of peanut butter and don’t really like peanut butter that much but whenever i used to tell people i don’t like peanut butter they’d get all defensive like “peanut butter is amazing how do you not like it?!” and then i’d have to go into this whole thing to defend my taste buds.
but then i got tired of it and started telling people that i’m just allergic to peanuts because that way it’s not my fault that i hate the smell of peanut butter – it’s now like i’m a sad little baby who will never get to taste peanut butter ever in her life and everyone feels sad for me.
but the problem is that i really love peanut m&ms and so now i can only eat peanut m&ms when i’m at home in secret. the only person who knows my lie is my husband. and so at work this evening we had a small celebration for someone and they had peanut m&ms and i really wanted some but obviously couldn’t eat them in public because then people would know my peanut secret.
and so when we got home after work my husband tipped his jacket over and emptied his pockets and at least thirty or so peanut m&ms fell out of his pockets and he whispered, “i was sneakily accumulating them all night for you because i could see the pain in your eyes.”
and if that isn’t love then i don’t know what is.

Sen. Tom Cotton faces fiery town hall crowd over health care repeal, support for Trump
- Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) was pounded with tough questions from around 2,000 angry constituents at a town hall in his home state Wednesday night.
- Attendees asked about everything from the repeal of the Affordable Care Act to Cotton’s support for Trump.
- Cotton’s town hall was one of the most contentious among a slew of raucous town halls, despite the fact that it was in a state Trump won with more than 60% of the vote in 2016.
- In one of the most stunning moments of the night, a woman named Kati — who described herself as a multi-generation Arkansan from a Republican family — stood up to tell Cotton that without the ACA’s protections for pre-existing conditions, she “will die.” Read more (2/23/17 8:23 AM)
Meanwhile, other Congresspeople are trying to dodge their constituents so they don’t get yelled at too
- Some members of Congress are simply pulling out of previously scheduled public events and town halls.
- In New York, Rep. Lee Zeldin canceled a constituent event after his office discovered that members of local protest groups planned to attend.
- In Huntsville, Alabama, Rep. Mo Brooks pulled out of a town hall event sponsored by tea party activists after interest in the event gained steam.
- It’s not just Republicans who are facing pressure from organizers on the ground. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is being trolled by constituents in San Francisco who are organizing a town hall with an “empty chair” after Feinstein declined to participate in an event. Read more (2/22/17 5:45 PM)
I’m tricking my students into writing a research paper by having them write an open letter and then strengthen their argument by adding evidence. They were allowed to write about anything they wanted for the first draft of their open letter, and one of my 10th grade boys decided he wanted to write about girls who only like bands because the members are cute and don’t really care about the music.
I let him do it because I’ve found that shutting down a student’s idea at the first draft stage tends to make them more obstinate about the topic. I figured we’d get to the evidence-gathering stage, he wouldn’t be able to find scholarly sources and he would change his topic.
Well lo and behold, today he comes into class and tells me he’s changing his topic. Apparently, he couldn’t find any evidence and he figured he was being kind of hypocritical because he gets really excited about athletes he doesn’t even know and the only reason that’s different than fangirls is because it’s him. He actually told me that he realized that writing that first letter would be pretty condescending. He’s going to write about LGBT rights instead.
This next generation, y’all. There’s some good stuff happening.
EXCELLENT TEACHING METHOD A++++
I was eating dinner with my mom and when she went to pay I noticed a “Hooters” frequent diner card or whatever in her wallet. I asked her WTF, and she explained that a friend of hers got a coupon for the grand opening and so a group of them went for lunch just to try it out. This is a group that consists of women from their 50s into their 80s. Apparently the food decent but the service was amazing, and the servers were “all such wonderful girls, so sweet! Said it was nice to take a break from all the gross men they had to deal with.” So they decided to come back. Now they go once a week at least, and the Hooters waitresses fight each other for who gets to serve them. Anyhow I thought it was cute.
