Who exactly is ‘giving kids sex hormones’? oh wait. it’s the endocrinologists and parents inducing puberty in their kids because they think it’s happening too slowly or their endogenous hormone levels aren’t high enough. don’t believe me?

’How and when do I induce puberty in males?’, posted to Endocrine Abstracts.
‘Inducing puberty’, published in the European Journal of Endorcinology.

bonus points if your kid’s intersex!

meanwhile, trans teenagers (who actually elect to pursue hormone treatments) undergo intense psychological evaluation beforehand, and are overwhelmingly given hormone blockers—not ’ sex hormones’—to delay further effects of their first puberty for a few years until they’re sure they want to go on HRT.

what are the drugs they’re given? well, the most common is Lupron or leuprolide. Other applications of the drug include:

parents who want their daughters to get taller, or,

parents who are grossed out by their kids’ puberties when they happen faster than they expected.

once again, trans kids are getting victimized by people who don’t care about facts or contexts, and who rely on straw man arguments to spread fear tactics that compromise kids’ wellbeing and physical safety.

Tbh PLEASE spread this post, if you are willing.

I see well-meaning people getting duped by misinformation about trans kids’ medical treatment WAY too often. People with an agenda of hate tell sensationalist stories that simply don’t match up with reality, and scare a lot of parents who might otherwise support their kids.

Informing people about the actual reality can save those kids’ lives.

I just want to chime in as an intersex person who was put on sex hormones against my will starting at age 11. Unlike trans kids whose treatment schedules tend to be “prevent an unwanted series of sexual developments until the child is old enough to safely begin pursuing the desired sexual developments,” intersex kids get put on sex hormones early, often, and aggressively.

These intensive, generally unwanted interventions have side effects. Life long side effects. For example, because of the high doses of hormones I was put on as a kid, I’ve developed a chronic condition that, ironically, can only be treated by staying permanently on yet another sex hormone therapy regimen. Even as an adult, I don’t have the choice to stop, because if I did, there’s more than even odds that I would get blood poisoning, and because my brand of intersex comes complete with a bunch of immunological issues (ALSO as a result of improper medical care due to intersexuality in childhood! Wild!!!), I would probably- not definitely but probably- die in excruciating pain.

There’s just so much fucked up about anti-trans people making statements like “stop with the sex hormones.” And basically all of the fucked up shit comes directly from believing that children aren’t real people and trans people are actually demons.

whoomp there it is!!!

Okay this is all good info but I’m side-eyeing the word choice behind “parents who are grossed out by their kids’ puberties” making it sound like parents with legitimate health concerns for their children are just puritans projecting body shame.

Do you think ANY 7 year old *wants* to be having a period? That can be traumatising even for cisgender girls. There are plenty of adult cisgender women who don’t want to be having periods and take hormonal birth control to get rid of them.

Periods – not that great.

And it’s important to note that the kids having the puberty the earliest are also the ones eating the lowest quality, least nutritious food – poor families that cannot afford healthier options. I don’t think it’s fair to imply that parents who are worried about their kids going through puberty at extremely young ages are bad parents, particularly considering statistical evidence indicates a correlation between earlier puberty in girls and poverty.

Personally I’m not a fan of being short and I wish I had delayed puberty a year or two if it meant I’d be able to buy pants without needing to hem them. My sister was two years older than I was when she had her puberty and she’s about two inches taller.

So summer of 2017, I started shaving my head Furiosa short. I did this until mid-October and then let it grow out. I’ve went to the stylist fairly regularly to have things evened out and trimmed. It’ll be a year since the last big cut and already my hair is down to the bottom of my ears. It’s nearly too long for my hair to be considered a pixie cut and that is goddamn nutty imo

I remember a white kid in my class talking about how his parents made 320k combined and they still “struggle” and thinking to myself: “It’s probably because they don’t know how to manage their fucking money and live above their means, but sure, just pretend it’s not their fault”

A few minutes later, he mentions that they vacation 3 times a year, own 3 cars, and spend $1000 a week (A WEEK) on food.

Long story short, I refuse to feel sorry for any of you upper-middle class folk that pretend you’re struggling financially too when you just have no sort of financial management skills.

I remember reading about a couple who were both dentists and said they were living “paycheck to paycheck” but spent 10k a month.

tbh no matter how rich i get… i don’t know how i could ever spend 10k a month… like how.

Living above your means

This is a big reason the recession happened. The recession was caused by the real estate market crash. People were buying houses way beyond their means. They’d be making good money, but their mortgage was like 90% of their salary so they barely had anything left over for food and bills. And then when anything went wrong in their lives they had absolutely no safety net.

Not to mention all the fools who were house flipping, which is such an obvious pyramid scheme. You’re renovating a house thinking you’ll be able to sell it for more not realizing there are a shitload more people poorer than you than there are richer than you and eventually you’ll hit a point where no one can afford your house including you.

I am a woman. I am a practicing attorney. I am the only woman in my office over the age of 35 who doesn’t color her hair. I have some gray, but not a lot yet, and I never seriously considered coloring my hair until this job. I don’t want to: it’s expensive and a pain in the ass to keep up. About a year ago, I was in court, and a female attorney walked in with curly, bobbed, naturally gray hair, and her mere act of publicly displaying her natural hair color seemed not just unusual but defiant. Meanwhile many men in my office and in the courts have gray hair, and I doubt anyone thinks twice about it.

Always reblog.

Me: Minimum wage jobs are essential jobs

My dad: That’s not true

Me: If nobody worked those minimum wage jobs we’d have no supermarkets or restaurants, no factories, and everything would be filthy because nobody would be cleaning it

My dad: Then somebody else would do those jobs

Me: So you’re saying those jobs need to be done? So they’re essential jobs?

My dad: They’re not essential

you have to admit there are some joys in life that can only be felt due to hardship. a common example is steaming hot showers. it takes a cold day, or a sickness, for someone to experience the joy of a hot shower. you can’t enjoy it in the heat. then there’s the joy of a fulfilling sleep, often achieved through a tiring day. and there’s the joy of a reunion, achieved through separation. and there are many more examples. sometimes difficulty carries a special range of joys and that’s something to be thankful about.
