A few reminders for any ladies going clothes shopping soon

  • Women’s clothing sizes are the work of the devil, mean nothing, and are inconsistent from brand to brand. My pant size varies from 12 to 18 depending on brand. Whatever random number is on that tag means nothing.
  • Clothing that looks good on hangers may not look good on you. This is not your fault. Its bad design. Move on.
  • Comfort above all else.
  • If you find a shirt / style of jeans / bra that you really really like, buy it in several colors if you can.
  • Trying something on and not liking it isnt a failure on your part. It just means that you put it back. Thats what dressing rooms are for.
  • Nothing beats a good tank top and a sturdy pair of jeans with pockets (check the men’s section. They keep the good jeans there) you can use accessories (scarfs, jewelry, jackets, whatever) to dress it up or down.
  • Dont be afraid to try something on. Worse case, you dont like how it looks.
  • Ready made clothing will never fit you perfectly. Humans do not come in discreet convenient sizes.
  • Be comfortable. Youre awesome.

I’m thinking for trans friends who are about to go clothes shopping in the women’s section for the first time, don’t try to make sense of the sizes, most people have no idea what the numbers mean but they are overwhelming. It’s okay. Be comfortable

Very true. Eyeball the sizes as best you can. Grab a size up and a size down to try on. Womens clothing sizes are nonsensical.

-If you find jeans you like, buy three pairs and wear them every day.  No one will ever notice; they’ll just think you have pants that fit well.

WHEN TO BUY A SIZE TOO BIG

-anything with belts or drawstrings. You can tighten these or easily take them in

-t-shirts

-work pants.

-Anything that doesn’t have to be form fitting

WHEN TO BUY A SIZE TOO SMALL

-Sports bras(not the really good ones that are sized like normal bras. Just the ones that follow s,m,l, style sizing.)

-Anything stretchy. Leggings, jeggings, tights, etc.

-Crop tops (because of my proportions, I usually buy 2 sizes down to get it to look right. I have a short thick torso with no natural waist and average boob size. A crop top that would show tits on a more average body ends up being perfect usually)

-Jeans. Denim is a bitch to sew, so just get the smallest size you can squeeze and wiggle into. Real, quality denim loosens and softens over time. Jeans that will always look good need to start out as just barely closing. Wash them a few times to speed the aging.

-Anything high-waisted.

Good additions

I love clothing resource posts! I need to find more for people with big butts and thighs under 5’4 haha. Finding men’s jeans for this body type has had me up the wall. >.< I can find the butt thighs sometimes but not a suitable length usually. I want giant pockets damnit! Haha
