the only reason that the plebians & proles got any rights whatsoever during the early age of the Roman Republic was because of a series of extended, massive, general strikes that saw the whole population of the city’s plebians literally walking out of the city and camping out on one of the hills outside while the patricians flipped their shit and eventually caved
and when the patricians kept trying to force their legal distinctions and unearned rights over the others the plebs kept walking out and forcing concessions until eventually the only firm legal distinction between pleb & patrician was that patricians got to wear a certain kind of shoe if they wanted to and they could be priests in certain esoteric cults
since the earliest days of written history, since the oldest records of civilization, the rich will always try to fuck the poor and then codify that fucking into law
only by rejecting the system outright, only by general strikes and mass resistance, will the rich ever back down
