have you ever just assumed that a word was pronounced a certain way and you end up pronouncing it incorrectly throughout your entire life and then one day someone corrects you and its like you can almost hear satan laughing as the flames of hell begin to seep up from underground and slowly burn you to death
Okay, so story time. I was out at the pub one night with a friend, and she brought along some of her friends I didn’t know.
Guy literally starts making fun of HIS OWN KID. “Haha, he didn’t know how to pronounce (I don’t remember, let’s go with rendezvous)! He’d only seen it online and couldn’t say it! Kids these days are so dumb!”
So I turned to him and very calmly said: “So you’re saying he’s gaining a bigger vocabulary from the internet than he ever got at home from you? Because otherwise he would have known how to say it, wouldn’t he?”
Yeah, you’ve never seen a motherfucker sputter and try to backtrack so fast. Sorry, asshole, but I have your number. You’ve literally admitted your kid is learning more from the internet than from you.
TLDR; mispronouncing a word because you’ve only ever read it isn’t shameful. It means you’re a badass who has reached beyond your upbringing. Don’t ever be ashamed for being more than where you came from.
