fun idea: start spelling out “trans exclusionary radical feminist” when you’re calling someone a terf and mean that they are a trans exclusionary radical feminist, and spell it out again on posts that use it incorrectly to let them know that they clearly have no idea what the term means or are willfully taking it out of context, that they’re hiding behind buzzwords and that they certainly aren’t doing trans women any favours
funny how using an acronym as a catch-all go-to term for any
exclusionary action (even the good kind!) will obscure the real meaning
I’ve seen so many trans women (esp trans women of color, but that could be bc I mostly follow and interact with people of color in general idk) get called terfs for just discussing nuanced, complicated issues relating to being trans. It’s like, if your opinion can’t be simplified down to a quick and catchy sound bite, that’s all it takes.
It’s especially disconcerting because so often it’s people who aren’t transfeminine labeling trans women terfs. Shit, the other day there was a non-transfeminine nb person mocking a trans woman for literally being a trans woman, saying she couldn’t criticize the way gender is conceptualized while being a trans woman… and calling her a terf like three lines down!
Those of us who aren’t targeted by transmisogyny really need to do better tbh
