I’ve used queer as my ID (publicly and privately) on and off since I was 16/17.
That was a decade ago.
It’s not just the word that fits me best as a person, but the word that fits my specific community. It describes my space in the world and how I move through life. It has perhaps always described me, even when I didn’t know it.
It’s my word. But it’s also kind of… my world.
And I’m not going to stop using queer any more than I’d stop being queer. I don’t think I could because it’s such an integral part of what makes me… Me.
Respecting other people’s feelings on the word queer is a two way street.
Like I will respect your wishes not to be called queer if you have that, but you need to respect that queer is a word that I have found describes me and my community better than anything else out there.
