Because I still see people, especially younger people just entering political topics, arguing as though they don’t realize this:
All the radical right-wing stock arguments you’ve heard boil down to the same exact thing. Whether it’s “you’re censoring my free speech [to be prejudiced]!” or “you’re SHAMING this made-up character’s sexuality!” or “actually you’re more racist for implying that a minority needs special treatment!” all of these points are, in their mind, “fighting fire with fire.”
They think they’re wielding the same kind of logic used by the “other side,” whether that be “liberals” or “sjw’s” or whatever their token scapegoat of the day is called. They believe they’re reflecting the same points as their opposition in some sort of ingenious catch-22 because that’s just how poorly they’re willing to grasp the context of those original points, and their only strategy when it fails to work is to repeat it until the other side just gives up on the conversation, which they believe counts as a victory – sort of like “winning” an online game by doing nothing until the opponent disconnects.
