Especially considering that the rhetoric of ‘Real Americans’ and ‘patriots’ has always been the standard Republican dog whistle.
I have to admit I was (sortanotreally) surprised that most of what I was seeing in mainstream responses ignored that element in favor of just going for the “He’s such an ass” line.
Like, that was just so stomach churning to hear. *Especially* since it was meant to be “clarification”
