BTW, most of those victims are men. More than half of the sexual assaults that take place in the US military are perpetrated on men, by fellow or superior male officers. According to the Pentagon, 38 military men get sexually assaulted every day. Men are less likely to report than women. Male veterans are twice as likely to have rape-related PTSD as to have combat-related PTSD. [source]
This isn’t to say women aren’t still at greater risk. While only ~15% of military officers are women [source], about 47% of military sexual assault victims are women [source].
Point being, the military’s rape problem long predates the military’s inclusion of female officers.
