I think it’s actually pretty necessary to point out Hillary Clinton’s comments the day before Trump launched the missile strike in Syria. “I really believe that we should have, and still should, take out his airfields.” Okay, so we know where she stands on the issue and we’ve known that before. This isn’t some petty dig, it’s acknowledging that U.S. imperialism exists whether or not we have a democrat or republican in office. There’s a lot of outrage because this is Trump but you can’t just feign anger when you’ve been complicit under Obama, and would have been under Clinton.
A lot of you are telling me “Oh well Clinton wouldn’t have been bombing willy-nilly, she wouldn’t have done this without congressional approval, she wouldn’t have killed civilians.” And really what proof do you have of that because this is exactly what’s been happening for a long time now. It certainly all applies to Obama.
In 2016 alone, over 26,000 bombs were dropped under Obama, that an average of 72 bombs every day btw. 24,287 of those bombs were dropped in Iraq and Syria alone. He launched 20,000 airstrikes in his first term alone. He killed civilians. He waged war without congressional approval. These are attacks that happened in Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Iraq, and Syria.
Y’all want to prop up Obama as this peace loving president and you want to believe that Hillary would have done the same and it’s just not like that at all. There’s a reason why democrats and republicans in congress praised Thursday’s missile strikes. There’s a reason why anchors CNN and MSNBC did too. There’s a reason why former Obama administration aides said it was “the right thing to do.”
And I’m not saying you all should fall in line and praise what Trump did, I’m saying we need to evaluate our anger. Don’t pick and chose just because this happens to involve Trump. U.S. imperialism is the problem and we need to stop pretending that “the other party” is a solution to any of this.
