Most of this is lifted from the twitter rant I just went on, but: I love how Shaun King, among others, are out here trashing Hillary Clinton for not “living up to her campaign promises” and trashing her for “giving up” when she literally… lost…

Hillary worked tirelessly for this country for 25+ years, and this is the thanks she gets. I’ve seen this too many times since the election.

People asking “where’s Hillary?” after Some Shit™ goes down during the Trump transition. Where is she? In the woods, bitch.

People asking “where’s Hillary?” after Trump shoots off another typo-ridden tweet. Where is she? At the bookstore, bitch.

People asking “where’s Hillary?” after learning about Russian influence in the election. Where is she? Sipping tea and taking a nap because she fucking told y’all about that and y’all laughed at her and called her a nut.

Hillary Clinton fought for this country for years and fought through that election, and for what? So the men at the top of the party can walk around saying “I would’ve won”? So people can continue to drag her for not doing enough, even though she just fought lost the biggest election of her life?

Hillary Clinton put her heart and soul into working to do what she thought was right in order to make this country great, and she did it while fighting sexism and misogyny, right-wing conspiracy theories and smears, and even attacks from people within her own party.

Hillary Clinton is a private citizen now, and she doesn’t HAVE to do ANYTHING for ANYONE. Y’all can kick all the rocks.

This is the most dude thing ever. She didn’t get the job, but she’s expected to do it anwyay.

Well and even more to the point – Hillary Clinton trying to be a public part of the protests or opposition will do enormous damage to the protests and opposition, and she knows this. If she gets involved at all, Trump will absolutely use her involvement to delegitimize anyone who’s in the same area code as Hillary Clinton. He’ll claim that people are protesting because she’s paid them to (he’s already claiming the protestors are being paid), and that she’s just trying to stir up trouble to take over the presidency/run in 2020. And enough people will believe it to derail the movement that’s building.

The best thing Hillary Clinton can do for those protesting and working toward 2018 is exactly what she’s doing; staying quiet and giving the bare minimum of social media support. She can’t march and she can’t speak – not yet, not in this climate, not without risking enormous blowback. She’s smart enough and, I think, supportive enough of what’s happening to keep herself as far away from any accusations of collusion as possible.

I’ve been baffled by the ‘where’s Hillary’ comments because.. peaceful transition of power? A losing candidate not stepping down and giving up is a great first step toward a civil war?
