‘the oppression the irish faced proves racism against whites is real!’

a) thats xenophobia, not racism. the americans hated us because we were from ireland, not because we were fucking white lol.

b) learn the difference between ‘these people are from a different country, get them out of here’ and ‘these people are of a different race, get them out of here’

c) stop using us as a gotcha against black ppl, you racist shitbags

as someone who is irish I 100% support this post. Also

d) irish people no longer face discrimination in school, the workplace, and life in general anymore. Unarmed black people are still getting shot by police.

PSA

The amount of white tears in the notes is hilarious

I am also largely an American decedent of Irish people and I support this. And yes, in the US, this is something I hear Often as a gotcha during discussions of racism. It boggles my mind sometimes the sort of contexts this comes up in, even by non-Irish white descendants in the US.

Not to say the Irish haven’t experienced oppression, just not in the way white people in the US drop it sooooo often! (“America discriminates against everyone. You just gotta get past that hazing!” >.> ugh)
