Undercover boss is such a bullshit show
WHY!!!
A boss going through all levels of THEIR company? That should be standard. ALL BOSSES SHOULD KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. That should be everyday. Like, this is your money? This is your company? You own this? You should know it?
But the endings are the worst. They pick like 4-5 employees, decide whether or not they are “worthy” of the money.
These bosses hear, THEY HEAR, their employees say shit like, “I have to work three jobs to support myself.” “I had to work while I was on chemo because I couldn’t afford not too.” “I can’t even afford to take care of my kids on this salary.”
The boss hears this. Gives them money. Tearful thank you from those 4 employees.
What about your hundreds to thousands of other employees?????
Like these greedy manipulative fucks understand that these people NEED money, but they only give an adequate amount to four people???? When everyone in their company needs the company they are dedicating their lives too to care about them?? And pay them a living wage???
Like, how heartless of a person can you be, to know, TO KNOW, TO SEE IT IN YOUR FACE, that your company is working people to death, and you just give some people money for the cameras and tell your other employees to go fuck themselves
it’s nothing but poverty porn, and a way of making people think that bosses aren’t so bad, see, they gave money to these people so they don’t starve how selfless of them!! ignoring the fact that those people (and all the employees) should’ve been getting a living wage in the first place.
Like they portray their hardships as if they arent inherently their fault. Like omfg this person had to work and take care of their dying husband?! That literally would not happen if they gave people adequate healthcare and pay so that when an emergency happens they can take a fucking break. Or the people who say they work three jobs thats because this fucker doesn’t pay a living wage.
Fuck off with your ‘charity’ work when literally being a decent human being would have not created these situations in the first place.

Boss: My name is Whitey Duderson, and I’m C.E.O. of a massive international corporation. This week, I’m gonna disguise myself and go undercover so I can spy on my employees!
Boss: *wears fake glasses or like grows his beard out or something*
Boss: First I’m gonna try a service job!
Service Worker: Okay so this is a pretty simple job, all you have to do is this and this, go to it!
Boss: *fucks everything up*
Service Worker: Wow, this guy is just not service work material!
Boss: I guess I really have to respect service workers more! Not, like, pay them more. Just pay lip service to how hard their jobs are.
Boss: Okay next I’m gonna look in on one of our supervisors.
Supervisor: *acts horribly abusive*
Boss: Wow, that supervisor was horribly abusive and it made me so mad! I could have stopped it, but that would have meant breaking cover, so I guess the victims just had to suffer for the sake of good TV, huh?
Boss: Oh hey, here’s a woman and/or PoC who does an important job in our company!
Woman and/or PoC: Really sucks trying to feed my kids with the long hours and low pay, you know? Kinda wish corporate would do something about that.
Boss: Wow, what an incredible work ethic! I’d love to have more workers like that, so I can exploit – ERR I MEAN so that they can teach others in the company their incredible work ethic!
Boss: Okay, now time to reveal my TRUE IDENTITY!
Boss: Hi, employees that I spent the past few days lying to; I’m actually Whitey Duderson, C.E.O. of this company!
Employees: *gasping* whaaaaaaaaat
Boss: So like, yeah, I’m gonna give you a pittance of money, start an awareness campaign, and/or implement a policy that we should have had in the first damn place. Also, abusive supervisor, I’m not gonna fire you but you might wanna consider not abusing anymore? Just a thought.
Employees: omg this is the best boss anyone could ask for! No, really, this is as good as it gets in this capitalist hellscape!
Boss: *gets out in front of entire company* Hi, entire company. Here’s a video of me being a fuckup, and a maudlin speech about how much I learned from you, so I can make you briefly forget that I’m exploiting you. Best company ever, amirite?

Screen Text: Two weeks later, all that stuff the boss said came to pass! Look at their smiling faces! Not much has actually changed, but we want you to remember these smiling faces because this show is naked propaganda!The bosses almost ALWAYS get mad when their college/young adult service workers say they don’t want a career with their current corporation and that they’re only keeping that job until they’re done with school or whatever. Some of those workers even get fired because of their “disloyalty.” Because obviously if you work a drive-through window or whatever, you’re SUPPOSED to want to keep doing that for the rest of your life? Even after you obtain a usable degree in a field that is definitely NOT food service? And it’s like… the least you could do would be to support a struggling 20-something obtain an EDUCATION.
Don’t forget that asshole who FIRED his employee because she didn’t want to wear literal underwear (a bikini) on camera, but does it every other normal day of her life just to make a goddamn paycheck.
There was one cook who worked for two different restaurants, and the boss only THEN hired him full-time or whatever because it was a shame to have such a talented chef working for the competition. So, like, typical capitalist interest. Meanwhile there are hundreds if not thousands of other employees that he has who work part-time and can’t make ends meet because they don’t have enough hours or they don’t get insurance benefits.
That’s the part that’s so heartbreaking. That these ceos expect their employees to die for their company. Like, people who worked for them for 20 years, no health care, no raise and the ceo is all teary eyed as if this gesture is like, some kind of romantic sacrifice???? They always say some shit like, “We need more workers like them.” “They loyalty is just so impressive.”
It’s disgusting and sick.
Especially since ceos are NOT loyal to their company at all, and will jump shit the second shit hits the fan
