No offense but being 13 was probably one of the most mentally draining times of my life and I’m getting kind of tired of people brushing off younger generations as whiny and not knowing “real” adult pain. You guys sound just like boomers who complain about “kids these days.” Being 13 was fucking hard. Trying to assert yourself as an individual is difficult. Going into high school is difficult. Trying develop your identity is draining as hell (especially if you’re not cis or hetero). Trying to be taken seriously and having your opinions acknowledged is difficult. My heart goes out to any 13-year-olds dealing with shit because that was one of the worst times in my life.

Scientifically speaking pre teens and teenagers are having the emotional limbic system part of their brain fully mature, but usually have yet to fully mature the rational, higher functioning cortex. So they are experiencing the full intensity and complexity of adult emotions (for the first time in their life) without the benefit of a fully developed cortex to rationalize and put those emotions in context. Not to mention going through a very trying and stressful social time in their life.

Even science says that being thirteen and the years following are really hard.
