The idea that trans people or non-binary people are anything new because your grandparents didn’t know about them is the most bullshit claim. In Hawaii we had, and still have, the Māhū, many natives had two spirits, but that mostly went away with internment schools, in Thailand there are several genders, in India there was and is the Hijra and other for other tribal societies, and throughout the world there are countless accounts of different gender systems, in all of these societies they all played an essential role in the culture.
Non-binary gender systems have existed since the beginning of societies and probably before that, it ain’t new. It’s new to white people, white people do not get to claim history and their culture as tradition or the correct way. People have had this shit forever, just cuz white people ain’t used to it doesn’t mean you get to claim it’s anything new.
And before someone pulls some TERF shit calling it cultural appropriation for white people to be trans, it ain’t. They ain’t claiming to be Māhū or two spirit, they’re calling themselves trans women/men or non binary or whatever else, who’s culture is that stealing? Hint: fucking no one! they are establishing and evolving culture in our society to accept what everyone else around the god damn world has already accepted for thousands of years. It’s damn well time, get the fuck used to it.
You’d think after colonizing the entire world you’d pick up some of what seems to be almost universal but instead nah they just forced their bullshit gender system on everyone else.
