Talk about Astrid too peas?

amentaldiversion:

How I feel about this character

Astrid is my second fave character in Fringe 😀 I would even get rid of Peter for her if I had to choose. Ridiculously intelligent and great at her job but what I love the most about her is how people-smart she is. I mean, there should be essays written on Astrid as a friend and partner, her grasp on what makes other people tick and how to best work with them is amazing and would be freakish if it weren’t for how clever and tactful she is about that. She will do a lot for others but never loses herself in it and I respect that a lot. I feel like she doesn’t get enough credit for how awesome she is. Oh, and you haven’t asked about her precisely but I’ll jump on and say that I loved alternate Astrid and the fact that she’s autistic.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I don’t! Astrid is both aro and ace.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Olivia, Broyles, everyone tbh. But well, let’s go with Walter. Their relationship was very challenging to watch at first (to be honest, Walter himself was a difficult character but he’s grown on me, I really love where they went with him). But then just broke my heart over and over again. I also think that Astrid played a huge part in how the bond between Walter and Peter developed. Walter was very lucky to get to work with Astrid and I believe they were truly friends.

My unpopular opinion about this character
I don’t know what’s unpopular…

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

More of her in general! And a lot more of alt!Astrid. While I loved her appearances and both Astrids together, I’d rather they didn’t focus on that wondering-what-love-is part. It is a legit and valid concern for many people on the spectrum, and I’m aware that alt!Astrid was inspired by Jasika’s rl autistic sister and that’s really cool. Only, we got so little time with alt!Astrid that making a big part of her storyline about that over-used trope felt, idek, an easy way out and kinda neglectful? There aren’t many autistic characters on television that are portrayed more broadly than just in this particular context and that would be really cool to see on Fringe.

On a side not: Jasika rocked in these roles and I love her and her voice-acting is out of this world, really. If you like podcasts, I sincerely recommend you listen to Alice Isn’t Dead. It’s a Welcome To Night Vale spin-off but you don’t need prior knowledge of that show to understand. Jasika plays the main character who is a lesbian truck driver, travels the country and has wicked adventures and searches for her wife who – here’s the plot twist! – really isn’t dead! It’s fairly recent and comes out every other week so there’s not much yet but I really like it so far.

That sounds amazing! Where do I find these podcasts? (I haven’t really gotten into podcasts…)
